Education
Get
ready for some great courses!
Sunday School is offered for children age 4 through grade 12. Meets weekly on Sunday mornings from 9:45 - 10:45 am. To receive more information contact Gayle Balster at 837-0355.
N.U.T.S.
is a Wednesday evening youth group for those who are out of confirmation
and have not yet graduated from high school. We meet from 6-8 pm in the
youth room and have a time of fellowship, Bible study on issues of today,
and a whole lot of fun and games. Come check it out! To receive more information
contact Shana Erie at 852-6404.
K.F.C. allows a place for children age 4 all the way through 6th grade to have a place to belong. Each Wednesday night from 6-7:30 pm. This year the children are following the "Hands On Bible" program. They will be involved in a completely hands on experience as they dig deeper into the Bible and build their relationships with Christ. It is a wonderful opportunity for children to get involved at a young age and continue to grow in their Christian faith in a crazy world of friends and peer pressure.
Confirmation instruction for grades 7-9 begins with our “Parents and Students Night”. Once again, it will be a great year for our students! Many changes have been made to the program, including new materials, new servant events, new guides and instructors, and more.
Since parents play a vital role in the development of their children during the confirmation years, we want to invite parents to take an active role in their son or daughter’s confirmation instruction. We’re looking forward to the time we will spend with your child and anticipate seeing your son or daughter grow in their understanding of God’s love for them in Jesus Christ and what it means to live as God’s child today!
Fellowship
This
is a great opportunity for you to begin to move into a deeper relationship
with Jesus, the church, and members of the congregation. This course
will help answer some of those questions like, “Where do I go now?”,
“What do I do next?” Feel free to come
and find out what it means to discover your spiritual maturity!
Friendship Ablaze! is now in full swing and will continue until September 28th which is Friendship Sunday. Our goal is to have 100 visitors in church on the 28th to hear the life-changing news of Jesus Christ and the salvation He desires for each of His children. The 4-week sermon series and 5-week small group studies will focus on giving witness of the hope that is within us to another person so that person might encounter Christ and be saved. It’s not too late to sign up to be part of a small group. There are sign up forms in the Fellowship Hall at the Friendship Ablaze! table. If you find you just can’t commit to being part of a small group study at this time, please talk to me. I would love to get the study materials to you so you can do them on your own time. I would also like to encourage you to be a part of the Prayer Vigil that is taking place September 26th and 27th from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. You’ll find more information about that in another article in this newsletter. May God guide and direct you as you reach out with the love of Jesus Christ to your friends who need to know about the Friend who laid down His life for them.
There are many volunteer service opportunities available here at OSLC for you to use the gifts God has lavished on you. Especially this fall with the start up of so many of our programs such as KFC, Sunday School, Confirmation, NUTS, small group Bible studies, choir, etc. We always need ushers, nursery attendants, servers for funerals, readers, greeters, sewing disciples, prayer warriors, drama team – oh, don’t get me going because I know I could never name all of the wonderful groups of people who work out the faith that the Holy Spirit has put in them! So how do you find out more about these ministries?
Want to be a part of an exciting mission project? Join the Sewing Disciples on Monday, September 8th and again on Monday, September 22nd. We start at 9:30 a.m. and work until noon. Bring a sack lunch to enjoy a time of fellowship as we eat our noon lunch together. We work on quilts, school kits, health kits, sewing kits and layettes for Lutheran World Relief. You don’t even have to know how to sew!! We meet twice per month from September through April.
With all the back to school sales, it’s a great time to pick up supplies for school kits. We have lots of crayons and pencils, but we could really use the following:
If you would like to donate any of the above items, please drop them by the church office. Thank You!
Are you in the 50+ age group? We’d love to have you join us on Friday, September 19th as our Forever Young group gathers for a potluck supper at 6:00 p.m. sharp here at OSLC! It is a wonderful opportunity for fellowship as we enjoy the delicious food prepared by some of the best cooks in the county!
Our new vicar, Anders Davidson and his wife, Sarah will be sharing with us for our program this month. It will give us a chance to get to know them as they share a little about themselves and for them to get to know us! Please come and help make them feel welcome!
See you on September 19th. Don’t forget to invite someone to join you for this evening of good fun, food and fellowship!
May peace and joy be yours,
Duane & Clara Schell
